Project Summary
The main goals of this project are to aid and assist the design, Structural modeling and FEA analysis of the FanFlyer airframe. The team will design and test robust and lightweight frame models to prototype the internal structure for a small manned aircraft. The Fanflyer was conceived to compete I the Boeing-sponsored GoFly contest. This contest is to design a personal Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft which can fit in a parking space and cruise quietly at 80 knots. Future derivative may include unmanned versions for surveying, crop and harvest, water supply for forest fires, or suppling and rescuing troops in remote locations. The Competition for GoFly will be held in October 2019 with a grand prize of $1 Million. Despite the competition the capstones team’s main goal was to focus on the internal structure and not the overall competition. The team Is sponsored by Novakinetics CEO Jim Corning. By the end of the competition Jim plans to create marketing and legislature to pave the road for this new kind of aircraft.
